Introduction
The Committee invites abstract submissions for:
- Workshops
- Short Papers (15 minutes)
- Facilitated Poster Presentations
- Poster Presentations
to be presented at GP10 Conference.
Key Dates
- 14 May 2010 Deadline for abstract submission at 5:00pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time)
- Early July 2010 Authors will be notified by email of the result of their abstract submission
Details of call for papers
Workshops
Workshop sessions will be 45 or 90 minutes of duration. Workshop presenters will be expected to devote substantial time to discussion and other involvement by participants.
Short Papers
Short paper presentations will be 15 minutes duration with 10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes of discussion
Facilitated Poster Presentations
The facilitated poster presentation will be an oral presentation with approximately 10-12 posters in a session room, grouped by theme. Sessions will commence with an introduction and explanation from the chair. Time will be provided at the beginning of the session to view the posters (approximately 10-15 minutes). Each presenter will then stand beside their poster and discuss the key points for 1 minute. Once each presenter has spoken the chair person will lead a facilitated discussion around the issues raised by each poster.
Poster dimensions are to be no more than portrait 1m in width and 1.5m in height. Posters will be displayed in the exhibition area for the duration of the conference. Presenters are required to move their poster into the discussion room at least 15 minutes prior to the start of session. Posters are then required to be removed and placed back on allocation poster board in the exhibition area. Facilitated poster presenters will be notified of their presentation time, date and room once the program has been finalized.
Poster Presentations
Poster presentations will be on display at the conference. Session times will be organised for presenters to be at their posters to discuss their work and receive feedback. Posters should be no larger than 1m in width and 1.5 m in height.
Students and Registrars
GP10 welcomes submission from students and Registrars, and will allocate one or more dedicated sessions for these presentations, facilitated by a student or Registrar. If you wish to be considered for this stream please indicate in the appropriate section of the abstract submissions system.
Themes
The major theme of the Conference is ‘Shape Our Future'. Within this context the themes are arranged as follows:
- Indigenous health
- e-health
- Sports medicine
- Rural health
- Health promotion
- The business of medicine
- Practical tips for students and registrars.
General Guidelines for Submissions
You now have the opportunity resubmit your abstract with the identifying information. As you are aware all abstracts were blind reviewed. You initially submitted an abstract without identifying information. You have been given the opportunity to resubmit your abstract by Friday 27 August 2010. Please also check your abstract for typographical errors and edit as required. Refer to the template on the abstract system for guidelines. The abstract will be printed on the conference USB and will also be listed on the conference website. Please indicate your acceptance to publish your abstract within the fields noted on the abstract template.

Changes will not be accepted after 28 August 2010.
- Abstracts must be a maximum of 250 words and should be submitted in English, the language of the Conference
- All abstracts must be original work
- The abstract will contain text only, no diagrams, illustrations, tables, reference or graphics
- Abstract submission will only be accepted via this website
- All presenting authors must register and pay for the Conference by August 2010; otherwise the paper will be removed from the program
- Abstracts are to be submitted in Microsoft Word format using the abstract template provided
- A committee will blind review all abstracts. The committee reserves the right to accept and reject abstracts for inclusion in the program
- Abstracts received after the closing date will not be accepted
- We recommend that the format for an abstract follows one of the following outlines:

- Outline Paper 1 (maximum 250 words)
- Each abstract must identify the keywords that it is addressing. Please list the keywords in a line below the abstract (maximum of 5 keywords)
- The Conference Managers will not be held responsible for submission errors caused by internet service outages, hardware or software delays, power outages or unforeseen events
- It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that the abstract is submitted correctly. After an author has submitted their abstract, they should check their submissions using their access key
- All Authors will receive notification of outcome of their submission by early July 2010
- Responsibility for the accuracy of abstracts rests with the author
- Where there are co-authors, only one abstract is to be submitted. The presenting author is responsible for ensuring the co-authors agree with and are aware of the content before submitting the abstract
- An abstract which does not adhere to these requirements is unlikely to be accepted
- The closing date for abstracts is 14 May 2010
RACGP Alan Chancellor Award 2010
The Alan Chancellor Award is presented each year to the GP considered the best first time presenter of a research paper at GP10. The prize is $500 and an engraved medallion and is presented in memory of Dr Alan Chancellor, a founding member of the RACGP National Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee*.

National Asthma Council Research Award 2010
The RACGP and National Asthma Council Research Award is awarded annually by the National Asthma Council to the best presenter of an asthma related abstract or poster at GP10. The award is to the value of $500 and is presenter at the closing ceremony*.

Selection Process
All abstracts will go through the following process:
- Blind reviewed by a panel made up of members of the Scientific Committee. The Committee retains the right to accept the abstract in a different type of presentation (for example, oral presentation as a poster)
- Acceptance of an abstract will be based on relative merit and the degrees to which the abstract meets the aims of the program
- The criteria for evaluating abstracts includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- relevance to the Conference theme ‘Shape our Future’
- importance of presentation
- relevance of content to audience
- originality
- The person identified as the lead presenter will be the designated contact person and receive all conference correspondence
- Authors will be notified of their abstract results by early July 2010
- All accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference proceedings
- The acceptance of an abstract does not imply funding by the Conference Organisers or the Committee. Presenting authors are required to register and pay to attend the Conference
What Happens Next
- You will receive notification of your abstract results via email by early July 2010
- If you have not received notification of your abstract results by mid July 2010, please contact the Conference Organisers, arinex at gp2010@arinex.com.au
- If successful, you will be required to confirm your acceptance of the invitation, confirm the name of the presenter and register the presenter to attend the Conference
- Further instructions on presentation requirements will be provided in future correspondence
- Instructions for the preparation of posters will be sent together with notification of acceptance.
(Please note: All correspondence will be forwarded by email to one contact only. Unless otherwise notified, the Conference Office will assume that the name the submission was uploaded under is the name of the presenter.)

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference. Similarly, no speaker fee is paid to successful applicants.
By submitting this abstract you confirm that it has not been published or presented before. You also grant the Organising Committee permission to publish the abstract in the Conference proceedings in hard copy and electronic format.
If you do not wish to do this but still wish to submit please contact arinex to discuss. The Committee's decision on acceptance of the abstract will be final.
